Melbourne, Sydney, 9 hours at LA airport and finally I arrive in Miami! A place where they speak to you in Spanish first, then realise you speak English later. There is a huge Hispanic influence here with a large presence of Cubans and Mexicans. Of course with this, brings their culture.. I would compare it to the Gold Coast, except with salsa music!
I have previously spent some time in Miami’s popular South Beach, however I stayed ‘downtown’ as it is much more convenient to get to the cruise terminal which I was embarking from the next day. Contrary to what I expected, I really enjoyed the Bayside area and before long found myself under a tree snoozing away the hot afternoon.
That evening I met up with my parents – they had also endured a long flight from Zimbabwe. We had a fantastic meal at the marina (chicken and seafood fajitas) washed down with a bottle of Bud Light(s). ☺
Tomorrow we travel through the western Caribbean by ship – the Carnival Splendor!
